Game Racer Elite
The Game Racer Elite, promoted as “The ultimate Indoor Racing Simulator”, is a simple but very effective solution for SimRacers who want to enjoy their race to a pretty high level of real life driving.
Thanks to its simple design and stability the game racer provides quite a good racing experience. Of course this experience very much depends on the steering wheel you are using. But even you have a really basic and cheap wheel you will feel the difference from driving on your desk or coffee table almost immediately. We all know the situations when your pedals slide out under your feet or your wheel just turns together with your desk. Nothing’s worst than ruining a perfect lap because of that. Not to mention the back and shoulder problems you can obtain from racing in uncomfortable position.
The chassis together with the genuine Corbeau seat offer the sim racers a proper ride on almost every single game available on the market no matter the console you use. PC users might find the game racer a little bit too low for their computer desks and monitors though.
The tough Game Racer frame with durable black powder coat finish is quite stable and allows users to reach almost every wheel and pedals adjustment possible. The distributors of the seat reckon its very compact-able and easy to store in almost any cupboard or room, but the truth is The Game Racer is quite heavy and not so easy to move around and store away under the bed or the cupboard. And the slightest contact of the pedals plate with any furniture can leave permanent marks on it. So be careful moving the simulator around your home.
Also because of the weight and material of the chassis you might need to protect the floor if it’s laminated or wood. It can nasty scratch because you will probably push or drag the seat when moving it around. Its too heavy to be lifted up and carried around.
The actual seat adjustment is easy with a little bit of extra pushing on the bolt handles (they really get very tight after a while). But you will spend some serious time finding the optimal drive position for yourself (wheel angle and distance, pedal plate distance etc.). And remember, try to mark that position up somehow because if anyone else sits on your game racer you’ll probably have to start all over again with the adjustments. Marker pen normally does the job.
I tried the game racer elite with the latest Logitech steering wheel – the GT. It offers 900 degree rotation and very good force feed back. And its specially designed for the GrandTurismo5 game. It fitted quite well on the wheel and pedals plates. Fixing the GT is not exactly a quick job, because you will have to stick the velcro stickers on the wheel and pedals plate, and you have to stick them very accurate as well in order to get the best grip. The plate could have been a little big thicker so the Logitech’s wheel can be fixed better, but don’t worry the velcro stickers hold it fine.
The Grand Turismo 5 is undoubtedly is the best racing game out there. The Logitech’s GT wheel specially made for the GT5 just makes the game even more realistic and superb. But playing on you desk with your chair sliding around or sitting on the sofa bending your back to the limit of casualty isn’t the real experience. There is no way you can experience even 50% of racing without a driving simulator seat. The Game Racer completes the racing pack. You become one with the game. You feel you are in a real driving situation. You feel much more confident and prepared to take any corner twice as fast.
With the special GT buttons on the wheel you can do real time settings changes while you are racing. The Game Racer made me fall in love with driving my GrandTurismo again.
I also played Need for Speed Undercover on my Play Station 3. Another proper racing game even not as “real” as the GT5. But yet again the feeling you get from driving in the Game racer is unbeatable.
On the Xbox360 things were looking pretty much the same from the seat point of view. I had the Microsoft Xbox 360™ Wireless Racing Wheel. And played Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360). The experience was bit poorer than playing GT5 with Logitech steering wheel but the feeling in the race seat was just as good. Probably if Logitech had a steering wheel for Xbox360 things were going to look a bit different. Probably much different indeed. Don’t get me wrong though. Driving the Xbox 360™ Wireless Racing Wheel is not a bad race. It ticks almost all the boxes, it just doesn’t give the same thrilling feeling as the GT5. But the good thing is that you don’t get some of the games for playstation3. Specially my old time favourite Test Drive. I remember playing TestDrive1 and 2 when I was a small kid and trying it now (Test Drive Unlimited) on the game racer elite really brought back same touching memories. The amazing render quality and unrivalled interior details including full car functions such as radio, electric windows, horn, wipers and more just make you forget about anything else and just drive and drive……. like a kid again….with the same passion I mean. Yeah, Test Drive Unlimited goes along with game racer elite. The choice of sophisticated car and bike dealers to purchase new vehicles from or simply take them for a spin, makes you want two consoles to play with your simulator. You know, having the choice. The Game Racer Elite is not only designed for driving simulations. It is a very good flight simulator as well.
With the additional mounting platforms you can get together with the seat it becomes a real time flight simulator right in the middle of your home. You can basically attach anything you need for your flight sims. From the joysticks to keyboards and additional displays and mice. I flew Heroes Over Europe (PS3) with Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X PS3. It is comfortable, the buttons are easy to find and the throttle can be detached for a more realistic feel. And the Game Racer Seat yet again makes you feel operating the real thing. With the right mounting platforms arrangement you really get the feeling you are in the cockpit of a fighting jet.
